What is a limerick?

A limerick is a five-line poem written with one couplet and one triplet. If a couplet is a two-line rhymed poem, then a triplet would be a three-line rhymed poem. The rhyme pattern is a a b b a with lines 1, 2 and 5 containing 3 beats and rhyming, and lines 3 and 4 having two beats and rhyming. Some people say that the limerick was invented by soldiers returning from France to the Irish town of Limerick in the 1700's. See the Wikipedia entry or more information.

I take some personal details supplied by the requestor, such as their favorite drink, favorite saying, some funny details of the person's life, and come up with an occasion-appropriate limerick incorporating these details.

I will supply a four to five verse limerick - the number of verses vary because a limerick tells a story and sometimes fewer verses tell the story better than more.

I have created limericks for birthdays, wedding speeches, going-away gifts and a variety of other occasions (even a funeral), including limericks that deal with current affairs and news items.
